Shepard Fairey Promotes Creative Storytelling Workshop
LACMA and LA County Library have teamed up to provide a series of workshops in which participants enjoy a reading of a book followed by an artmaking project with a LACMA teaching artist. The first workshop, which took place on January 22, 2021, was centered around the theme of civic engagement. After a reading of Spike and Tonya Lewis Lee’s book, Giant Steps to Change the World, I led a discussion about Shepard Fairey’s work, Respect and Justice Letter Press, followed by a collaged protest poster project. Inspired by the book and Fairey’s artwork participants used colors, shapes, symbols, and words to create an artwork that represented something they wanted to change in the world around them.
Artist and OBEY Giant creator, Shepard Fairey and SCVTV both promoted the program on their websites. Check out a recording of the full workshop here!
