Hands On Conference 2017

The Hands On Conference is an annual meeting of museum educators from across the globe, organized by the International Association of Children in Museums.

In October, 2017 I presented one of the drop-in art making projects developed for families at the Whitney Museum at the Makers Market. The projects was inspired by Edward Steichen’s high-contrast portrait of Paul Robeson created in 1933. Attendees were invited to create bold, black and white collages, exploring the dramatic effects that light and shadow can create. I shared a portfolio of projects created for families with kids of all ages and discussed some of the successes and challenges encountered in opening a new museum building and reaching new audiences.

The conference took place in Prague, Pilsen and Pisek over four days. It was spectacular to explore new spaces, hear speakers from countries all over the world and to reconnect with colleagues from Europe.
