Budding Artists
In the summer of 2019, I was so happy to be the Lead Teaching Artist for the grassroots organization Budding Artists. I collaborated with the program founders to develop a six week curriculum of hands-on art classes for pre-kindergarten students in the area of Lynwood and Compton in South Los Angeles. Established in October 2018, Budding Artist was conceptualized by two close friends, Sarah Tanberg and Dakota McMahand, both educators, seeking to create sustainable change in under-resourced communities. The projects objective is to provide free process-based art experiences to children ages 3 -5 who live in under-resourced areas to prepare students for successful participation in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) programs during elementary school. There is something so special about working with this age group because you are able to nurture and witness true, unencumbered creative exploration and discovery. I led two six-week sessions and met some wonderful families.
